Do you need a special needle to sew lycra ?
I am often asked if you will need to use a special needle when sewing Lycra, the answer to that is Yes! sewing lycra typically requires the use of a special needle designed for stretch fabrics. A ballpoint or stretch needle is recommended as it is less likely to damage the delicate fibers of the fabric.
These needles are designed with a slightly rounded tip to slip through the threads of knits and stretch fabrics rather than piercing through them. the finished look of your costume will be a professional looking one rather than one that has skipped stitches and holes in it.
So please don’t waste your valuable time trying to make a costume with a normal needle, check out the link below or go to the sundries page and search Organ Stretch Needles.
Did you know that you are supposed to change your needle after 8 hours of use ? needles that are not changed become blunt.
